This type was prepared to commemorate the re-establishment of the monarchy in 1915, with Yuan Shih-kai as the new emperor, with the title Hung-hsien. Due to a rebellion in Yunnan the enthronement was postponed on 23 February 1916, and, with the death of Yuan Shih-kai on 6 June 1916, that plan came to an end. These coins, though dated year 1 of Hung-hsien (1916), were not issued before 1917-1918.
